It’s Better To Fail At Starting A Business Whilst in Your 9-5 Job Than Not Starting At All

If you desire to launch your business so that you can leave your 9-5 job, you have to quit making excuses. Professional women just like you already have plenty of challenges that slows down your progress of transitioning out of the 9-5. Challenges such as limited time to work on your business, looking after children and family, as well as having to be on top of your game whilst at work. It would naturally make sense to toy with the idea of leaving your job when you are faced with various set backs each day. However, in spite of what is going on in your life right now, you have to choose to push pass what is opposing you and make the commitment to make something out of your life regardless of what is going on right now.

Set A Date To Leave Your 9-5
If you're determined to leave you 9-5, then you will need to set a date for your exit. It surprises me how many professional women state with conviction that they will ditch the job, but yet has missed off the key element of setting a date and committing to meeting that deadline. They often justify the reason for not setting a date because of still developing their business, or not sure how they can make the business profitable. So, they play with the idea in their mind that they will leave one day, without setting a firm date to make it happen.

The truth is, if you don’t set a date you could be stuck in your job much longer then you really desire. The longer you stay in your job, the longer it will take for you to spend quality times with your loved ones. It will also prolong the agony of having to commute back and forth to work, not to mention the long tedious hours at work. So, I think you would agree that it would be in your best interest to set a date to leave. If push comes to shove, you can always change the date if it's unrealistic because setting a date does not mean that it's set-in-stone.

Using Your Time Wisely
Your time will obviously be very limited if you're currently stuck in a 9-5 job. This doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to work on your business. It just means that you have to work on your business whilst managing all your other responsibilities. It’s not about the amount of time that you spend on your business that count, it's more about the quality and productivity of what you are doing.

If you’re stuck on what you should be doing in your business, go to your local library and borrow a how to start a business book, or maybe consider attending a free workshop on starting a business. Whatever, you do, don’t just guess what you need to be doing otherwise you could end up spending a lot of your precious times on areas of your business that this not pushing your business forward.

The quicker you develop the key component of your business and generate enough money for your business, the sooner you will be able to leave your job. Remember your time is very valuable. So, use it wisely.

Who Are Your Cheerleaders?
Sad to say, but not everybody will be happy with your decision to start your business.
How do you feel about that?

How people react to you can either make you or break you. You have to be really thick-skinned and determined, especially if it’s coming from someone whom you least expected it from. It’s so important that you surround yourself with positive people who mean you well. There are plenty of good people around. You can find them in Facebook groups for women starting out in business, or maybe attend a meetup group and see if you connect with other women in a similar position. Having a support network will enable you to share and bounce ideas off one other. You will definitely need encouragement when you get those days where you might start doubting yourself about whether you’re really cut out for running a business.

Regardless of the challenges that you may face on your journey, it's better to at least try and make your business work, then just play with the idea in your head. Some days will be harder than others, but don’t let being in a 9-5 job prevent you from following through on your dream. You can do it if you put your mind to it.

The Five Top Reasons Why You Need to Sack Your Boss Today

7/26/2017

I felt inspired to write this blog, after reading a question that someone recently posted in one of my Facebook groups. These are common questions that I hear on a regular basis, so I thought I would share my answers with you because so many professional women stuck in a 9-5 job who desire to start their business, either leave prematurely or stay longer than what is necessary.

The five questions that were posted in the Facebook group are as follow:

“I have a question for those of you who have taken the leap from a 9-5 job, to becoming a full-time entrepreneur. When did you know in your heart it was time to take the leap?”
If you’re a professional woman, stuck in a 9-5 job and feeling unfulfilled, unappreciated and exhausted by the environment that you’re currently working in, and want to start your own business then it’s time to make the leap. Your time is very valuable and should be spent in an environment where you are feeling valued for what you are doing. Working a 9-5 job is not just about being paid at the end of the month. You need to feel like you’re making a valuable contribution to the organisation that you are working in. When you no longer feel passionate about the work that you’re doing in your 9-5 job but feel more fired up about the business that you want to launch, then this is the indication that now is the right time.
The difference with being you own boss in comparison to the 9-5 is that you set the tone and direction of how you want to things to go in your business. Every time you offer your product or services to a potential customer/client you feel so appreciated by them. Especially when you have delivered to such a high standard with your full heart and soul, which in turn transpire into having a consistent stream of income flowing into your business every month.

“If/when you did, what happened next?”
I started my first business when I was made redundant back in 2009. I have no regrets in taking the plunge in starting my own business. However, my biggest downfall was me not planning how I was going to go about running it. I, therefore, had to learn a lot of things the hard way. I wish I had found someone that I could be accountable to and that they would have sat me down and pointed me in the right direction. It would have helped me to avoid so many of the hurdles that I faced along my journey.

This is the number one reason why I’m so passionate about helping profession women stuck in  9-5 to craft a solid exit plan from their job and to also show them the best way to generate 6 months’ revenue from their service based business. So that they are in a good position to transition out of their  9-5 job into their business financially secured.

“Did you make it?”
Fortunately for me, yes, I did make it. Although it was extremely difficult at times. Sometimes I even wondered if I was doing the right thing and was even was tempted to throw in the towel when it got rough. However, I never gave up on my dream. I’m still standing.

Truth be told, only you can decide whether you will make it or not. You’re going to come against a lot of challenges along the way, but you have to make up in your mind that you won’t give up no matter what. If you’re naturally a person that quits when the going gets tough, then leaving your 9-5 job may not be the best option for you. However, if you’re a person, who is passionate, knows what you want in life, is hardworking, determined and focused, then I would encourage you to go for it.
If I’m completely honest with you, I prefer to work with these types of women, because they are go-getters and therefore will always get tangible results from their labour. They don’t make excuses when things get challenging. They are problem solvers and know how to think out of the box.

“Was it too soon?”
I wouldn’t advise you to leave your 9-5 job, without first crafting a solid exit plan and also generating 6 months’ revenue from your service based business. The reason why I say this to you is because having financial security, will increase your confidence and will provide you with the evidence, that your business is viable and that there is a genuine need for your services. It’s very risky for you to leave your job without having a financial cushion to sustain you because you still need to pay your bills and other expenses whilst growing your business. The worst thing that you don’t want to happen, is you not generating enough money from your business, whilst developing it and then having to go back to the 9-5 job because you run out of money and cannot pay your bills and other expenses. Telling yourself that your business is going to work inside of your head, without any tangible evidence is dangerous.

Why not stay in your 9-5 job, work on your business, generate 6 months’ income from your business and then leave?

“Or, just right?”
If you plan your escape from your 9-5 job strategically, then it will be the right time to leave. As stated before, I would encourage you to build up some financial capital before leaving your 9-5 because it’s less risky. You want to stack the cards in your favour. Making the leap from a 9-5 job to becoming a full-time entrepreneur is not an easy thing to do at the best of times. Some people leave in haste, without thinking and planning things through properly. They’re the ones who often learn through hard knocks and display the same patterns of behaviour in other areas of their life. They are very big picture people who don’t see the details and often get dishearten when unexpected things get in their way.

Starting a business is a bit like going to a foreign country for the first time. It can be exciting and advantageous to start off with. However, if you don’t plan where you are going whilst on your trip, or investigate the dos and don’ts of the country, then there’s a possibility that you might get a rude awakening that may cripple you financially, spoil your holiday before the fun has begun and you may have to come back home prematurely. Whereas, if you did your homework before arriving in the country, chances are you will be more clued up, with what to expect. Which in turn, will lead to a much pleasant experience.

In closing, starting a business can be one of the most rewarding experiences that you have ever had. It can potentially give you the freedom to live the life that you desire, as long as you plan for it. You will know deep in your heart when it’s the right time.
If you’re focused, know what you want and have an inner resilience to pick yourself up when the going gets tough. Then you definitely will make it without a shadow of a doubt. The only person that can stop your business success, is you doubting yourself.

You're Selfish If You're A Professional Women Working in a 9-5 job...

Are you working in a job that you are no longer passionate about? Or did you end up in your current career because you saw someone else do it and thought that it was a good idea to simply just copy them? But now you feel unfulfilled in your role because you know deep down that there is something else that you should be doing, and time is running out?

Did you know that you were placed on earth with a special gift and talent to serve others?

When you fail to realise your true potential, you rob other people from being blessed with what you have to offer. You're here for a reason. Your talent, skill set and knowledge is not just for you.

Stop being selfish by staying in your 9-5 job, when it's your heart desire to launch your own business.

Go after what you want. Life is too short.

There's room for everyone
There is no need to feel inferior, intimidated or jealous about someone else's business. That also includes competing with others to prove that you are better than them. The simple truth is, you actually don’t have to race with anybody because your journey is different. Stay in your own lane and focus on developing your own business.

Whenever you admire a quality that you see in somebody else that you don’t yet possess, is an invitation for you to up your game. Sad to say that a lot of professional women just like you, have not tapped into their truest potential. Time might have passed you by. However, you don’t have to live in regret because today is a new day.

Do you desire to leave your 9-5 job to launch the business you truly love?
What's stopping you from stepping into your true power? Is it the lack of time? Family commitments? Or not having enough money to ditch the 9-5?

Whatever excuses you are making for not developing your business, will prevent you from taking steps towards leaving your job. The only person that can really stop you from moving forward is you. Are you choosing to listen to the negative inner voices in your head? Which sounds something like this: I’m not good enough, I don’t know what I’m passionate about, nobody in my family has launched a business before, nobody will pay me for my services, I’m too old, I'm a single parent, I don't have the time to work on a business, I don't have any money to start a business. The list goes on and on...

I mean why would you choose to stay in a job that you’re not happy in? You're more than capable of running your own successful business, that will give you the fulfillment and satisfaction that you so badly crave. Excuses are just limitations. They don't have to hold you back if you don't want them to. Furthermore, sorry to be harsh with you, but is your job even guaranteed? You could in fact lose your job tomorrow.

Then what?

Staying in a job that you hate is being very selfish, especially when you desire to start your own business. You have been blessed with gifts and talents to serve others. Why not do the very thing that you are passionate about and get rewarded for it?

What is it going to take, to get you to take the leap?

I hope this article has been helpful to you. Take action towards following your dreams, and you will consciously manifest with greater success every day.

Why Being Made Redundant is the Best Thing That Could Happen To You

Do you remember a time in your life, when you were toying with an idea but didn’t take any action?

Well, that was me a good number of years ago, when I attended my first property seminar and was encouraged to read the book ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad.’ I love reading, so I was eager to find out what I would take away from the book. I was pleasantly surprised with the content because it gave me the basic overview about how rich people think significantly different to poor people and what their views were pertaining to business and investing.

At the time, I was in a job that I was happy in. It paid good money and I was getting all the support I needed. So, there wasn’t really a great urgency for me to implement any of the learnings in the book. Saying that though it did open my eyes to a lot of new things and it also showed me what being an entrepreneur was all about. Just by reading this book alone, I knew that one day I would desire to go into business for myself.

Manager From Hell
Fast forward a couple of years later and I found myself in another job. I thoroughly enjoyed my work but I hated all the politics within the working environment. To make matters worse there was a change of management and my new line manager was a complete dragon who was a control freak and wouldn’t allow any of my team to do what we were previously doing before she came on the scene. Every day there was conflicts and tension in the office. None of the team liked her, or her management style.

It was so frustrating working alongside her because she clearly had her own agenda. I was starting to reach my breaking point with this woman. I kept myself motivated by coming up with innovative ideas to move things forward because she was not interested in using any of the practices from the past. But it continually kept falling on deaf ears.

Enough is Enough
One afternoon, the team and I attending a meeting with the dragon from hell, which ultimately ended up being a massive argument. She was commanding that we stopped doing the work that we were currently doing (as outlined in our job description) but instead carry out other duties that we knew would not work. She wasn't interested in listening to anything we were saying and it was in that moment that the idea of running my own business came flashing across my mind again. I told myself, that if I worked for myself I wouldn’t have anybody trying to control the way I feel comfortable working or have my hours reduced because of cut backs within the organisation, or have my job description changed at a drop of a hat. The more that I thought about it, the stronger it became. Bearing in mind that I didn’t have a clue about how I would go about it.

The Turning Point
There were lots of rumours flying around the company about people being laid off. I was just waiting for the news to come directly to me. Then low and behold, the day finally came. I was called into the office and was told that my team of 3 people was going to be reduced to two and if I wanted to stay then I would need to apply for the new vacancy because the job description would be completely different to the one I had been working with previously. My initial reaction was shock and horror because I sort of thought my job was secure. However, it kind of made sense why my dragon of a line manager was so forceful in the way she was trying to enforce all the changes within the organisation because these were the changes that would be included in the new job role. Needless to say, I was made redundant/sacked from that company shortly afterwards.

Putting my hand on my heart, it was the best thing that could of happen to me for two reasons:

1)     Although it was a very painful experience at the time, I’m grateful that it happened because I’m now doing exactly what I want to do without that much restriction

2)     Secondly, if I hadn’t read the book ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’ all those years ago, I may not have had the courage to start a business and probably would have thought my life was over because I wasn’t clear about what I should be doing and may have ended up feeling like a victim and remaining stuck.

So all in all, I'm grateful for the experience.

Over to You
Can you identify with any of the points raised above? Have you been made redundant? If so, how did you deal with it? Or are you currently stuck in a 9-5 job and want to launch your own business?

Who knows what would have happened to me if I wasn’t made redundant? I might still be in a job that I hated, working with a control freak of a manager, instead of taking the leap and venturing out on my own. I've made a lot of mistakes on the way but I would never desire to turn back the clocks.

Wherever you are right now in your career, I strongly believe that everything in life happens for a reason. If you desire to have your own business, go for it. A job is no longer guarantee for life.

This is part 1 of a 5-part life after redundancy series. Make sure you follow me to get updated when part two becomes available.

I hope this article has been helpful to you. Take action towards following your dreams, and you will consciously manifest with greater success every day.

is it really possible to find the time to work on your business, whilst stuck in your 9-5 job?

Have you been thinking about launching a business so that you can leave your job? Or maybe you have a business already, but are struggling to generate enough business revenue to go full time in your business? If this is you, you’re not alone.

The idea to start a sustainable business whilst stuck in your 9-5 job has been given to you for a reason. The challenges that you are currently facing doesn’t mean that you won’t achieve your goal of having a business. Challenges are a good thing because they help you to grow as a person and to also see how serious you are about going after what you really want.

Believe it or not, but not every woman desire to start a business. They are quite happy travelling to their corporate job each and everyday and they aren’t t really bothered about working long hours or spending limiting time with their family and loved ones. You on the other hand, feel completely different to them. You’re frustrated in your role at work because you know deep down that there is more things that you want to achieve with your life and you know your current role is not going to give you the satisfaction that you so badly crave.

It’s normal to feel scared to take the plunge to leave the job that you have been doing for many years. Especially when your current job is guaranteed to pay you a salary at the end of the month. However, there comes a point in your life when you need to make a firm decision to let go of the safety net of your 9-5 job because launching your business comes with so many benefits that will work in your favour.
For example, you will grow significantly as a person because you will be venturing into territories that you never thought were possible. Not to mention a new-found confidence and inner resilient as you overcome the hurdles that you will face on you journey as you stretch yourself to step into and reach your truest potential.

The downside of you not going after what you really desire is that you will go to your grave without fulfilling your purpose on earth. The late Myles Munroe is famously known for saying that the grave yard is the riches place in earth because so many people die with businesses, songs and dreams inside of them. Not to mention you robbing other people from benefiting from your gift, knowledge and talents. Furthermore, how will you ever know what you are really capable of achieving if you don’t push yourself out of your comfort zone?

If you desire to leave your 9-5 job and go full time in a business that will excite and light you up, make the decision to go beyond the idea of wanting to leave your job and start taking radical action steps to make it happen. The steps don’t have to be massive, it could be something as simple as talking to your spouse or friend about your intention so that you will be held accountable to them.

It’s understandable why so many women remain stuck in their endeavours to launch their business and ditch their job, when there are so many things to consider.     There isn’t one hat that fits all. However, there are a few basic things that you can do right now to get the ball rolling:
  1. Decide on a date that you would like to leave your 9-5 job and actually make a note of the date.
  2. Do plenty of market research in the field of business that you want to go into to determine where you will fit in the market
  3. Identify who you will be competing with
  4. Attend plenty of start-up courses, seminars and workshops
  5. Go to business networking events

There obviously is more things that is involved to launching a successful business. However, it’s a starting point and will definitely make the ideal of launching your business become more realistic and not just be static in your head.

How would things be different if you implement a minimum of 3 out of the 5 suggestions above? Would you start to believe that it’s really possible to achieve change if you took the steps? How would it benefit you and those around you?

Do something today towards developing your business. You won’t regret it guaranteed.

You will find the time to work on your business, if it's important to you.

I hope this article has been helpful to you. Take action towards following your dreams, and you will consciously manifest with greater success every day.
